    Fine motor

Thank you all, I feel reassured. I just know he will face different challenges in kindergarten (speech), so I’m trying to get him ready as much as I can. Only 2 months left

    Fine motor

Is having trouble using scissors and tracing basic shapes like circles and squares a typical challenge for preschoolers with suspected ASD? That’s my son’s case. He can do other tasks that require fine motor skills like making a bead necklace, picking up tiny pieces of rice off table, etc…

    Is this klazomania?

klazomania, a random word I learned today while researching a new behaviour my son has. Hi everyone, My four year old, semi verbal son, has got yet another new habit. Right now what he does, is that he SHOUTS, and I mean really SHOUT something randomly. We could be watching tv or playing a...

Comment by 'Tatilove' in 'Making friends with autism'

Hi, I’m an introvert and actually love becoming friends with people like you. For some reason unknown to me, I tend to attract people with loud, bubbly personalities when all I really want is a calm person I can have an interesting conversation with somewhere quiet, like a cafe. If I were you...

    Speaking Gibberish

My son does have a strong interest for books, though I see he is more interested in naming/ learning the names of the objects and characters in a book than the actual story. He becomes easily bored when I read him and book and will start pointing objects to name. What does hyperlexia look like...

    Speaking Gibberish

It does reassure me that it’s more likely a stim than a form of regression. His stimming doesn’t bother me, but I’m trying to stay alert to anything that may be a form of regression so that I can address it early. I’m not even sure if addressing a regression early is beneficial or if it is...

    Speaking Gibberish

Thank you for your reply. In his case, yes, there is intonation. It’s like he is having a conversation on his own. He does it MOSTLY when he is bored, but tonight as we were practicing new words before bed, he would do it when I asked a question he didn’t know the answer to. For instance, I...

    Speaking Gibberish

Hello everyone, My speech delayed 4 year old, who used to be nonverbal, now has a large vocabulary, does a lot of echolalia and some spontaneous speech. I’m grateful for all the progress he has made, however, over the past couple weeks I noticed he has been talking a lot of gibberish. He’ll be...

    We’re certain

WOW! Thank you for replying and for sharing your family’s story with me. For your oldest who is no longer delayed, what would you say has made the most difference in his life? How old was he when he began talking? Like your youngest, making simple requests, pointing, naming objects, etc are...

    Regression of acquired skills

Hi food doesn’t touch. Here’s a photo of his dinner tonight. Everything is separate. Though he doesn’t touch his veggies, tonight he ate two platefuls and I only had to ask him to pick up his fork once. My biggest worry is regression, because I heard stories of kids losing acquired skills.

    Regression of acquired skills

I don’t think it’s the texture. It’s food he usually loves. Someone told me maybe something traumatic happened to him while eating when this all started. Maybe hot food (though I don’t usually serve him very hot food). I’ll continue observing him.

    Regression of acquired skills

He does it with food he has always loved. Maybe his taste in food is changing. I’ll try offering some new foods to see if that helps. Thank you
