Asda 'quiet hour' for autistic shoppers inspires 8 other stores to follow suit

While this is a very nice gesture. Just think about that Aldi and Lidl stores NEVER have music or announcements playing over the speakers.

    What is Your Job?

If you have any special interests (as most of us have), check if you can find a job around them. I was always interested in art and photography, so I studied Graphic Design and Photography and graduated with an Honour BA in both subjects within 3 years. In high school my grades were less than...

    Older friends

When growing up all my friends ( who total up to 4!) were all younger than me. In university I got better on with my professors than any of the students. Now, in my mid thirties, I have one friend my age, a 2 years younger friend, still from my childhood, and a friend who's 9 years older than me.

    Spectrum and migraine?

As a teenager I had severe migraine attacks that lasted between a day up to three weeks solid. Not a week went by with at least one day of migraine. It got that bad that I got checked for brain tumours or other brain injuries with no results. Since my move from Germany to Ireland in 2006 the...

    "True self" aspie style

I show a few Aspie things to a friend who's son is on the spectrum. With her I don't have to explain why I'm stimming, 'overreacting' to certain senses or leave her house as soon as other people come in to visit her. She sometimes laughs when she comes into her living room and her 5y/o sits on...

Do we drink more fluids than NTs?

Thanks for all the replies. So far it sounds like we're mostly on the extreme ends of either dehydration or drinking a lot, than drinking an average amount of fluids.

Are most aspies spiritual in nature or atheist?

    Atheist myself

Do we drink more fluids than NTs?

I used to be very sporty in my teens, but now in my mid thirties walking my dog is sadly the only daily exercise I am doing. My diet could also be better, but I would call it normally balanced for Irish consumptions.

Do we drink more fluids than NTs?

I had a discussion with my friend who's 5 y/o son has severe Autism, about his constant drinking habits. He's going nowhere without his bottle filled with either 'My Waddi' or the occasional 'Seven Up'. I asked her how much he would usually drink per day and her reply was about 5-6 of those...

Can one develop Asperger's due to trauma?

Autism is a genetic disorder. Meaning you are born with it. Aspergers is often not diagnosed before the age of 5 as its traits are less obvious in a baby or toddler. So I am very certain, you didn't 'pick it up' or were 'rewired' in the orphanage.

    Temperature sensitivity

As far as outdoor temperature goes, I like it right in the middle. Not too cold and not too hot. But I am told I am very sensitive touching warm pots (I would see them as burning hot though!) and getting into cold and hot water.

    Looking a lot younger?

Recently I was asked to show my ID to purchase a lotto ticket. After showing the cashier my driving license she still didn't believe me I am 34 years old.

    What's your "Happy Place"?

Being outdoors in the west of Ireland with my dog and camera and not seeing another person for hours.

    Sensory sensitivity

I can't stand, if anyone is touching me. It feels like an electric shock. Noise wise I hate any white noise from ticking clocks, refrigerators to rain. My bedroom is sound proof with no electronic devises plugged in, so that I can get some sleep. A snoring or even heavy breathing person...
