    Aspies Positives

I'm currently in university and also work part-time behind a bar. Although I do sometimes wish I wasn't so socially awkward and knew what to say in a given situation, I do feel that some of my Asperger's traits have brought me positive attention. I have a good memory, whereas my manager has a...

    Selective Mutism

I probably had this as a child, up until I was about 12 or so. I remember my dad getting on my case about it, for example, when someone said hello to me and I wouldn't respond. It's not that I didn't want to; at the time though, it felt as though my vocal cords were paralyzed and nothing would...

If you could be so kind..

    1. In my opinion, the best aspect of my AS is my ability to become immersed in subjects that interest me, leading to good grades. The worst would be the social awkwardness, e.g. being unsure of the "right" thing to say, people getting the wrong impression of me, etc. and the depression. 2. High...

    Birthdays?

I used to get so excited for my birthday when I was a kid... that all changed when I turned 13. It may have been something to do with having to listen to the other kids at school, who I thought were my friends, talk about the parties they went to, to which I wasn't invited. So when I had my...

Therapy Cat Helps Autistic Girl To Reduce Anxiety

It's amazing really, how animals can greatly improve the lives of people with autism or other disabilities. Iris is a remarkably talented girl, and Thula is just adorable. I wish them both the best for the future.

Bad things you did in your childhood

When I was 8, I set fire to the carpet at home. My mum was in the garden and had left her lighter lying around, and I got hold of it and started playing with it. I set a tissue on fire, and obviously it caught very quickly, so I panicked and dropped it on the floor. Mum went ballistic; so did my...

    Science loove!!

I'm particularly interested in psychology and am just starting a degree in it. I also have a keen interest in biology, particularly human and cell biology, and genetics.

    The Autism Spectrum and Depression

Looks interesting. I've been thinking about the relationship between ASDs and depression lately, as I've had it myself. I'll have to buy that book one day.

    Cat Obsession

That's awesome! I'm a cat lover and have 2 myself, used to be 3 until Precious passed away. I can relate to what Greg says about understanding his cats, as I myself am closer to my own cats (especially Precious) than I am to most people. I wouldn't say I was obsessed with cats though.

I KNEW it! I used to love Little Britain. Anyway, welcome to the forum Cupboardy. :)

    Asperger's and childish behavior

When I was 16, I was still watching children's programmes and cartoons, and playing with toys, and I still do at nearly 21. I also still play Mario games, which were among my favourites as a child, and I've seen Mario bed sheets in Wilkinson's which I'd really like to buy. I also have a lot of...

"What do you like to do for fun?"

I thought I was the only one who had an issue with this question! I've always been aware of coming across as "boring" or "weird" upon sharing what I normally do for fun, so now I respond with, "I just do what I feel like doing". For me, it's often just allowing my mind to wander, watching funny...

    Anyone prefer not to socialize?

Three years since my last post in this thread, and I've come to the conclusion that, for the most part, socialising is overrated. That's just my opinion though. I enjoy having meaningful conversations with like-minded people, who I know won't judge me for being myself, but otherwise, socialising...
