Do your parents understand and accept your autism?

I haven’t told either of my parents. I think Dad might understand but my Mum, not so sure - she’ll quite possibly see it as a reflection on herself and decide that it is her ‘fault’ and a negative thing.

    Learning Languages

My first languages were Frisian and Dutch, but now my primary language is English as we moved to New Zealand when I was 4. I also know New Zealand Sign Language.

When it comes to having friends, would you prefer not having or having friends and why?

I have a few friends. I’d possibly like a couple more. I find it hard to work out what level of friendship I have with a person - am I as important to them as they are to me? Would they want to grab a coffee with me, or is that beyond where they see our friendship at? I also struggle with...

Blankies and stuffed animals, childhood and beyond

I have a little teddy bear that I still hold going to sleep at times. He’s about 35 years old and looks it. He has a soothing influence on me.

Maori term for Autism means 'in his/her own time and space'

Te reo Māori is its own language, I'm glad they have a word of their own for autistic people. I think it will help autistic Māori feel more accepted and understood within their own community. Sometimes they import English words into te reo Māori pretty directly, but they have quite different...

Anxiety over my voice is damaging my job performance.

Does it matter what the clients think? If your boss thinks you are capable of making the calls, maybe just have faith that that he/she is happy enough with your voice making the calls :-). Longer term, if your voice concerns you that much, maybe you could see a speech therapist?

Please help me, I desperately need help!!!

What has your employer put in place to help you remember to submit timesheets in a timely manor? Also, do you have an ally within the workplace that can support you?

Do you ever find yourself not liking your friend’s friends?

One of my friends has friends that I don't really like or want to spend time with. Sometimes I just put up with it, other times I choose not to hang out with my friend when she is with the other friends.

    Really like numbers

Over the last few days I have been looking for number plates with triple numbers (eg. 333, 555) and am happy to say I managed to see all of them within about 3 days (most NZ number plates currently have 3 letters then 3 numbers). This made me weirdly happy. I try not to obsessively count...

    Really like numbers

Okay, so I have a fascination with numbers. Sometimes almost bordering on an obsession. I love numbers. I love certain numbers and dislike others. I hate being assigned a number I don't like - it can ruin my day. Sometimes I will go out of my way to avoid a number I don't like. I don't think I...

    Coping with Change

It's tiring, isn't it? I have to head to a shop shortly that rearranged its layout about six months ago and I still hate it. I feel uneasy, unsettled and lost. Pity it is the only fabric shop nearby!

    Lingering Resentment towards my mother

Your mother sounds like a very insecure, self-centred person.
