What Matters, to You, in a Conversation?

Good question.. I like when people speak in a friendly but still in a authentically manner and when I can be sure that they are actually listening and interested in the conversation. In general, I focus more on the words that someone says and less on mimics/gestures. I don't like small talk...

    Autism Spectrum Syndrome (ASS) ?

In German it doesn't matter if you call it "Autismus Spektrum Störung" (Störung = Disorder) or "Autismus Spektrum Syndrom", it's both ASS for short:p

My story - How I overcame most of my autism symptoms

Hi @FormerlyAutistic, have you ever considered the ICD-10 criteria? I think they are different from the DSM criteria (that are only used in the US as far as I know, meanwhile ICD is the common classification system used in Europe). Maybe you're interested in them as well.

I hope you find some useful advice and some like-minded people here. I'm always open to some kind conversations...

I can't stop rocking back and forth (stimming)

There's a swing nearby my house where i used to go on for 6 years, up to 5h a day (I had to give it up when I was 17 years old, as people start staring at me in a way that made me feel very uncomfortable). Whenever I felt that I'm not able to concentrate anymore, I took a one hour break and went...

Do you have unusual abilities, or are just good at certain things that others find hard?

I've got a strong memory that some people are impressed of, although it has it's bad sides too. I generally like to learn things by heart, especially numbers such as physical constants and number plates. I know the first 300 digits of Pi, every country including its flag etc. but, on the other...

If you were ever bullied in school and told a teacher or principal About it

They mostly ignored it. E.g. I once got a pair of compasses pushed in my upper leg by a so-called "class mate" and I could clearly see that the teacher (that stood 2m in front of me...) saw and heard it (as I screamed), but no reaction. I'm sorry that I can't share any positive experiences here...

    Sobriety

Wow, what a story! Big congratulations on your courage and will to become sober! As I‘ve never taken any substances, I can only vaguely imagine how tough it must be! Again, I am very impressed. Thank you for sharing this!

    What sounds fascinate you?

I love the sound of thunders and heavy rains. So don‘t try to interact with me during thunderstorms, I will be sitting next to the window being in my own world;)

Should I proceed with diagnosis for my 3 year old?

I agree with the answers above too. I don't know how it works in your country, but here it's an advantage if you get diagnosed with some sort of ASD before the age of 5, as you then have the right to apply financial help from the invalidity insurance when it comes to therapies and stuff due to...

    The Buddy Bench

Glad to hear about your beautiful day! Sounds nice! I'm fine too, thanks for asking. I should be studying a lot for the upcoming exams at university, but somehow I enjoy more just listening to some music and just following my thoughts, trying to figure out what life's supposed to be about;).
