Smile

I dedicate this song to Soup, Aillas and King_Oni for this blog entry.

For me, I get joy if and only I have done my best for everyone in AC. Everyone is my friend because every one of us are special. And I do my best to make everyone special, because indeed, we are all special.

These days, it is just a little harder than usual to smile, though. A few challenges await.

First of all, there are employment issues everywhere around the world. Governments stop employing people because of austerity - especially in the Netherlands, England, United States and so on. Out of the developed countries, only Australia is relatively safe, but even they closed the door to prospective immigrants because of the new Irish/English en masse emigration. The private sector merely follows the public sector.

Then, there is resentment against Aspies. Especially after Blacksburg and Sandy Hook shootings, no matter what the Aspie does - PhDs, engineering/professional degrees etc., we are portrayed as violent people with no heart. This is the perception, if Google searches were to be of any indication, like 'Autistic people should die'.

I beg to differ all the time, but now, I think I know what bothers me the most. Even a few of our autism community even accept this unfair view, and some of them are people I know personally. They may be nice and friendly on the outside, but I know, from personal experience, that they think we make them look bad as people who want to integrate with society better. I appreciate their honesty and their conditions... That's why I really felt angry with these people.

Much as I want to accept them with their conditions - it's hard because they are attacking fellow people with their conditions. Some of them, they even think these people are not part of our community - as they're a source of embarrassment to the whole autism community.

Well, I am glad great friends such as Aillas, King_Oni and Soup are here to support me. We have a community that looks out for each other. I just hope we can continue to support each other. We can smile with mutual support.
