Church Acoustics

I decided to watch church online. I kept shutting down during the service and it was all I could do to stare straight at the pastor and hold onto my seat. You see, there were too many kinds of hands giving me handshakes, too many different smells when I got hugged, and boy was it loud during the singing. The pastor kept insisting that everyone participate in the worship and I could t stand or raise my hands because I was overwhelmed, overstimulated and experiencing a shut down. This made me feel like I wasn’t blending in and I hate that feeling. It just got to be too much. Can anyone else relate that has autism like me?

Absolutely. I had stopped attending church because of all the obligatory touching and in the actual service, too much loudness. I was glad to see so many churches start streaming their services. I had been spending Sunday mornings reading my Bible on my own, which was ok, but you don't get the insight of others, you don't hear the songs, etc.

Now I can "attend" virtually, without the sensory discomfort (including not dressing up), and still have the experience I went to church for before.
