Wondering Nerve

Meditation was something Sondo knew he had to do but he sometimes forgot. He decided he needed to do it today or his body would begin to rot. He drove to a different park from the day before and sat Indian style atop a yoga mat he carried around in his car trunk over the grass. He rested his arms across his legs and focused on his breath. His mind fell into a limbic nebula soon after.
The therap pup plodded around on the soft blue carpet inside the house. He had awoken from a nap and his body needed to stretch. Voices he associated with love and care sounded through the halls and rooms around him. The outside was calling for him so he squirmed in a circle and began to go towards the glowing orange light closest to him. His baby claws tapped the titles and his small tail brushed unconsciously on them in the foyer. The front door was open. Despite being a little scared, he slowly descended the stone steps. Crisp 1983 October weather, leaves littering the streets, and a large Sol face grinning above a balcony on the other side of the front yard. Clicking and hooting shrillbeak sounds laced his ear drums as he crawled to the grass. Somewhere around the town, Talking Heads’s Burning Down The House was playing on someone’s cd in a car stereo. The pup looked upwards at the giant tree by the house and saw one of his teen cousins holding onto the equally large branch. She smiled at him, her fangs showing and her blue eyes glistening behind her glasses. Behind the house stood a beast stable and grunts from the hippogoros cut through the air. One looked over the fence towards the pup and shook its ears. Purple eyes peered back at his own light blues that would slowly turn green with maturity. The animal, while big, appeared even more large than it really did to his little mind. Tears started to form in his orbits, his tail grew stiff, a tiny whimper escaped his mouth, and he plodded away towards the back of the house. The world, while welcoming, still had scary things and if he couldn’t see them, they couldn’t get him. One of his other cousins, also a teen, who was also playing in the yard picked him up and carried him over past where he wanted to go. At least his cousin held him and plopped him down gently by the river bank. The water ran sinuously and small dinosaurs (birds) chirped along the sand. His cousins and older sibling ran to the water, splashing and wrestling with each other. But something a few feet beyond the bank startled the pup and his tears returned. Something that didn’t bother his family but wanted him attacked his soul. He couldn’t see it but this time, he didn’t feel safe. However, something clicked inside him next and a growl uttered in his throat. He didn’t know it but his mind had gone Permian. But it didn’t last long as his uncle scooped him up in his powerful hands away from whatever was going to hurt him.
Sondo’s adult mind returned to his skull with crashing realization and his whole body shook before he regained his composure. “Uncle…”, Sondo muttered to himself. “What was uncle trying to protect me from?” He had to know. Even if the drive was 50 minutes away, he would still go. Phones would hurt his ears now.

It's great, tons of intriguing details, you create such an interesting world, and the central character is going strong. It's the modern equivalent of reading episodes by Charles Dickens! Except a different genre...

Bite sized update!
The fastest way to Walburg was taking I-35. Snivillization humming on the stereo and the afternoon sun blaring down, Sondo stepped on the gas down the cracked road. After some time, he reached the interstate and was ready to brave the hostile traffic. Going the 75 mile speed limit angered other drivers and they would press others to break it out of a sense of entitlement. The new music from Orbital would go back and forth being steady to intense, reflecting the attitudes of those slamming their gas pedals.

Over on the dirt strip ahead, the two Mythchildren, John and Paul, carried intermodal containers to the other side of the road. Both were large and muscular humans with the Deity Son Mutation. This condition made them naturally superhuman in physical characteristics. John, the clean shaved and chocolate skinned elder brother of the two, had a war hammer that was rumored to have leveled an entire town in one blow during a battle with an unknown enemy. Paul, the bearded and peach skinned younger brother, wielded a battle axe during times of crisis that was also rumored for its supposed prowess: cutting down entire forests with casual swings. Both were employed for various heavy lifting jobs and they never complained.

After both ‘young gods’ crossed over, Sondo could continue his journey. Trailer homes and small houses dotted the two sprawling fields on both sides of the road. Brahman cattle and hippogoros either grazed or took notice of the rumbling car engine. Grunts and hoons came from the latter, being more vocal than the brahmans. Snivilisation had reached its last quarter by this time. The expansive and spacey sounding penultimate song, “Are We Here?”, was a fitting musical accompaniment to the wideness of the countryside. A pang of hunger kicked in Sondo’s stomach; in all of thinking of what he needed to do, he had forgotten to eat. Instead of taking the right hand turn that would lead to his uncle’s farm, he continued straight. The old German restaurant in the heart of the town was the closest place to go for sustenance at this time.
Outside the restaurant, a band called Y’z were performing on a crude but fitting stage. They were a tribute band to The Ramones meets The Doors sounding band called X. As the young therap pulled into the parking area, buffered by lying slabs of timber, his elven ears immediately picked up on the sound as it entered through his lowered car window. They were performing their own spin on X’s Sugarlight dubbed Spectrelight. Sondo just happened to catch the chorus:
Spectrelight! Sprectrelight! I need to feed! Devouring one soul after another in the palace of forever night!
As he got out, he noticed an older therap by the entrance of the eatery. This one’s whiskers drooped below his snout and his mane was greyed, giving away his old age. He wore a lederhosen just like the human restaurant staff, a testament to how German theraps immigrated to Texas along with their human counterparts. The elderly therap noticed the young Texan born therap and raised his lips in a smile. He didn’t show his teeth; theraps from the old world generally didn’t not just because showing your teeth was a sign of aggression instinctually but also because of old cultural values.

“Sondy?” A familiar voice pierced his elven ears. It had changed in timbre since it’s carrier picked him up off the ground as a cub but the root sound was still one of a loving family member. It was his older cousin, Kentoro. The tallest in the family and the most esoteric, he was always going to be Sondo’s “big cousin”. As soon as Sondo turned, Kentoro gripped him underneath the armpits and held him aloft off his feet, making him bark in surprise and his tail spasm. Red whiskers covered the taller than normal therap’s face and the smell of marijuana wafted into Sondo’s nostrils. “Big cousin Kentoro?!? Is Rax here, too?” Rax was Kentoro’s long term girlfriend to the point they were practically married.
This topic has really fallen back. I thought I had done an update at least back in January before I had that bad experience with college. Someone also told me my writing was bad even though they said they were reading this. It confused me beyond belief. I don’t know if I’ll ever finish this or not.

Luckily a lot of great writers didn't take any notice of naysayers. You have to just keep on, and stop listening to the negative critics. That person obviously has no idea how to be constructive and therefore isn't helpful to you. Stop taking any notice of them. Either they frame what they say usefully or they're a distraction to you, and can be ignored.
