Why are 90% of TV and movie romances so dry?

Being in love is great, seeing a romance with real chemistry is great, but I just could NOT care less about most romances in TV and movies. They feel like they're just there cause they're "supposed" to be, but they aren't developed enough to feel real so the writers don't actually care, and I don't see how the audience could either, so why are they even there? Could someone explain it to me? What am I not getting?
 
I don’t think I’m getting it either, because I feel like most of these types of shows are unwatchable lol
 
I like action more, but hard to follow the story line, or remember if there was one.
As long as happy ending

I think part of it is probably just preying on lonely, hopeful people. It's an escape similar to romance novels.
 
Most give me the same feeling musicals do , overblown exaggerations of the human condition, and that is painful for me . Not my cup of tea .

But I did think “The Note Book” movie was really good in my opinion,That seemed very realistic and similar to some parts of my life experiences and some of my relatives history from my observations. Maybe that’s why I liked it .

Mass entertainment has been changing over the last few decades. One effect is that romantic relationships are indeed "not developed" these days.

I believe it's a side effect of having major characters that are already perfect at the start of the scenario.
If the character can't develop, there's no natural way for their relationships to change - interactions are fundamentally transactional.
So there's room for a meetup, negotiation, cooperation and/or betrayal, and separation.
But where do you put romantic development if there's no character development?

Last one I saw that could come close was Will Turner and Elisabeth Swann’s from Pirates of the Caribbean. In the first three films anyway.

There's an entire media network operating largely on that premise to garner a "target audience".

It's called the "Hallmark Channel". A haven for sugary-sweet romances that likely never occur. :rolleyes:

Romance without acknowledging the human struggle to be seen, to be understood, leaves me cold. The last thing I saw that had such tension was A Silent Voice, an anime that had more humanity than the Hallmark Channel.
 
I like action films. I know that they aren't real and that means that I can enjoy them. Watching films where people are
 
I feel like 90% of ALL movies/TV are very dry. Not limited to romance. I'm not a big fan of the romance genre, but I've seen some decent ones.

The thing I dislike most of all is when a "romance" is shoe-horned into another movie. Because, you know, everyone wants to see that flat performance interrupt the actual movie.

Yessssss exactly! It's just there to check a box and yes, it's always SO flat! Like most people have been in relationships why do they like this stuff?
