Hi everyone!

I'm Kim from the USA and I am self-diagnosed as of December. At 21 years old, I am hoping to get an official diagnosis soon. Which is unfortunately difficult as all Asperger's and Autism Assessment in my area is aimed at children.

Asperger's was introduced to me by one of my college professors during November. She said that I reminded her a lot of her son, who was diagnosed at a young age. This professor has been tremendously helpful in pointing me in the right direction in terms of autism literature and research, as well as teaching me that I am not less of a human being because of my diagnosis. Nor is anyone else on the spectrum, for that matter. As I am fairly new to the community, I apologize in advance if I am ignorant in certain areas. If I offend you, I am not trying to be mean, I likely just don't know what I am talking about. :)

I look forward to learning more about and being a part of my new-found community. I can't wait to get to know you all, and I hope we can be friends. :)

Welcome :D

Don't worry, many people came to this site, unsure about AS. You'll find many people here to be quite helpful, and encouraging, so hopefully you'll find many of your answers here.

Hi, Kim! I got diagnosed in college myself. I'm twenty-four. My diagnosis three years ago came after a severe depressive episode induced by stress and social anxiety. After I recovered at home, I was directed to see an autism specialist, and he said I have AS. It explained many, many things, ranging from childhood loneliness to my adult struggles. So if you have any questions about what it's like to balance this sort of thing with college and other stuff, please don't hesitate to ask them. :D

Welcome to Aspiescentral Kim! Don't worry too much about offending us, we've all experienced saying the wrong thing. That's one of the traits of Asperger's apparently. There is some really helpful information and lots of useful tips here, and please, ask us anything. We tend to be a pretty open and supportive group. We don't really care if you have an official diagnosis or not, but it can sometimes help you to get the services you need out in the NT world.

Welcome Kim, what a nice professor you have in the way they have guided you so far. You will end up learning as much if not more here about aspergers syndrome. the only ones who need an official diagnoses are the non believers. AS MoCoffee says we do not care.
