What’s Going on In Life

Hi! thought I come back on here as I realize I haven’t been on this forum for a couple of months. Let’s see where have I been, oh right I’m currently as of 4 months now been working at my first healthcare job working as a medical transporter for a hospital in my city. Yeah as the name tells it I transport various patients to different places within the hospital mainly going for radiology tests (CT, MRI, nuclear, etc.) and taking emergency room patients to their rooms for observation. I’ve learned a lot being on the job such as interacting with individuals and their needs as well as providing the most basic care (mainly walking patients from a bed to a wheel chair, helping move a patient from the stretcher to the MRI table and so on). Yeah the job can be physically draining pushing beds and moving patients, but there’s never really a dull moment on the job itself as a healthcare professional.

I’m also currently in school finishing up my associates in science degree at community college where I am aiming to be a radiology x-ray tech; I just finished a 8 week class for this fall semester on anatomy and physiology and I was soooo close in making an “A” in that course but a “B” is still good given how difficult the class is with a lot of memorization. By late spring I’ll be able to apply to the radiology program at my college where I’m hoping all the success to get in and complete the 1-2 year clinical program.

So yeah not much going on except hey I’m currently sick with an ear and sinus infection and this is the third time I’ve gotten sick since starting my job at the hospital back in August. Not surprised as I’m in a high risk environment with various viruses and bacteria swarming around.
Hope everyone else who I’ve talked to before is doing well or those who are new here!

Hi Dillon - that's so great to hear! I was wondering about you not too long ago. I'm so glad you stuck with it and are furthering your education in health care. It's a great career and you'll never lack for job opportunities.

Sorry you're sick - hope you start to feel better!

Well done, Dillon. When despite so many obstacles in your life, you manage to just "soldier on".

Continually moving forward...no matter how fast or how slow it happens.

I don't know you. I've joined the forum since you last posting but that is awesome the new job is treating you well and you are learning a ton. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing some positing news.

It's good to hear that you're finding an employment path, you were struggling there for a while.
Yep from someone who has a advanced college degree and experience to having to work at Walmart for a while as a overnight stocker due to personal circumstances I did took me a while to just get back on my feet again. I think making this big career switch into the medical field versus what I had been doing is much more rewarding plus people in the healthcare field seem much more inclusive as hey I’m not the only one who is on the spectrum.

Thanks, this is like the 3rd time now that I’ve been sick since I starting my job back in August.
The worst illness I had so far was having COVID two weeks after I was hired at my job and that made me feel like I was hit by a car.

Hey Dillon. That’s great news. Incidentally I worked patient transfer in the ER before becoming a nurse. It’s great experience.
I enjoy it except for the burn out it comes at times.
I’ve had people tell me “oh you just push beds around it can’t be that hard” yeah sure want to walk 20,000-30,000 steps with me on a work week lol
I’m not just delivering a patient from one area to another but rather I’m also assisting with the most basic car such as helping a disabled or elderly patient walk from a wheel chair or bed, assisting nurses in equipment set up such as oxygen tanks, move the patient onto a MRI table and importantly making sure the patient is comfortable, and just showing hey I’m here if you need me. I’m kind of like a nurses aide but at the same time I’m not but yeah it’s great first hand experience to gain despite the physical demand.

Nice to hear this news, @Dillon. It's great to see you following through on your goals and ideas that you stated in past posts. I find your post inspiring as I work toward my own goals.
