What would you pay to Avoid entertainment?

I recently saw an offer of concert tickets as a prize, and responded that I'd pay to not attend. What are some things you'd pay to avoid? Especially a day at Disneyland. In general, I think I'd pay a regular ticket price to not go.
 
Any type of musical theater, but then again, I'd be complaining that I had to pay to avoid it. An interesting hypothetical situation you're presenting. That is, everyone is forced to attend, even against their will, but...with enough money, they can pay to NOT attend. Sounds almost like blackmailing, either way, you're not going to like it.
 
Virtually everything on a simple premise. The value isn't there given the inherent combination of scalping and demand. Too many parties intent on getting their "pound of flesh" and more.

In essence live entertainment is not worth it, given the cost is simply out of control. Though admittedly I'd be hard-pressed to attempt to explain it to a child who wanted to go to Disneyland.

Of course that all said, I wouldn't pay anything to avoid anything either. :p

Granted, these situations are rather hypothetical - maybe someone is selling tickets for charity, or maybe friends want your company, and you would offer to give your ticket to someone who actually wanted to go with them. Mostly, I'm bemused by the speculation. I'd pay more to avoid country music or a football game than a Shakespeare play or a bicycle race. Disney would get my very highest rate.
 
Off the top of my head, I have paid to avoid long lines at the airport. I applied and went through the interview for a Global Entry pass. Now I breeze through security in no time at all. I hate long lines.

Other than that, if I had the money I would pay someone to grocery shop for me. I hate doing it but also I don't trust someone else to do it. I don't want someone picking fruit that isn't ripe or something that looks off.
 
Here's another one... I would pay to avoid having to do team building exercises at my work. I hate having to pretend to "have fun" whilst doing these shared activities with coworkers. I like my coworkers and everything but not these corporate "fun" things.

Can you invite everyone to come with you to do something you like, and they won't?
One time, it was Douglas Bader's turn to pick an exercise in Physical Education. He led the whole class in the duck walk around the gym for a few laps.

When Covid hit, it took me several rounds to learn to describe my order to the health food store, but it became easy. If you use a messenger, you can discuss their selections upon delivery, and, after instructions, subsequently refuse to pay for what you don't want. Maybe get pictures from the store if they think the whole selection might be sub-par.

They are the worst: I would pay to avoid having to play Kahoots at a team builder. Even the title: "team builder" irks me.
 
Some might find it entertaining I guess, many make a social event out of it here. In Australia you can refuse to show up to vote and pay a $20 fine for the privilege. :)
 
Yeah, I'm too cheap to pay to not go to some event. I'd just find a way to not go and not pay either.

IRL, I have told friends "no thanks" to a lot of things they wanted me to do with them. When I was still relativelly young and foolish, against my better judgement, I accepted a free invitation (unused ticket) to a live concert. I won't make that mistake again!

At least I took a book, and was somewhat able to tune out the crowd by reading, but the cigarette and pot smoke were way too overwhelming, and my earplugs could only block so much noise.
 
Almost every type of social event.

I mean, not that I actually go to any social events anyway.

As a kid, I would have paid to avoid playing stupid sports with others in school.

Granted I always just wandered away instead of doing them anyway, but still.

Also things like concerts or theaters or any of that.

I'm too cheap to pay not to go also, but certain sporting events like Football and Baseball, I might pay to get out of it if I had to.

Here it's Disneyworld. And I wouldn't pay to go but went to all three parks with a friend who paid for it. I actually enjoyed parts of it. Especially Epcot.

No, these outings and activities are decided by the organizers. I have one coming up in August and I'm dreading it.
 
We've lived in a world of "buy now and pay later"....where everyone is supposed to indulge themselves whether they have the disposable income to do so or not.

No thanks.

I've always lived within my means, and if I have to go into debt it won't because of concert tickets, or sporting events...or any kind if "event". Not to mention having to adjust to a very different mindset of living on a fixed income.

Typical Sydney, it rips everyone off. More than twice the price for less than half the value and genuine corruption thrown in for good measure. The fine really is only $20, so I don't know who's extortion fees you were also paying.
