What sort of sensory therapies do you use?

I'm considering getting some sensory aids for myself, and am wondering if you guys use any, and if so, do they work? I find I struggle a lot with needing physical pressure, so a weighted blanket may work, and I've chewed through about 8 necklaces so far, so considering getting some 'chewelry' or similar. Any feedback on these would be awesome. Thanks :)

Just reviving this older post as it seems to be a useful question. Does anyone have any input or suggestions? :)

This site has been mentioned in other threads. I'm thinking about doing some shopping here soon... http://www.stimtastic.co

Oh man, what a cool site! I doubt my "aspiness" on several levels, but not on this one. I'm always fidgeting with my jewelry, which unfortunately isn't made for the purpose, which causes it to break, and I love to spin things, and that stim putty sounds like fun.

I guess the big hurdle for me is giving myself permission to stim. I used to do it all the time, shaking long flexible objects, but my parents always discouraged the behavior and now it almost feels like it would be taking a step back. Then again, if it helps me to relax then what is the harm? Hmmm....

What a cool site!

I doubt my "aspiness" on several levels, but not when it comes to stiming. The more I hear about it the more I realize I've always been doing it. I love to spin, click, and squish things. For decades I would shake long flexible objects obsessively. I frequently break jewelry because I just can't stop playing with it. I kind of want to buy some of the items from this shop, especially the spinner pendant, the stim putty, and the Klixx Fidget.

Then again, I would be fighting some serious guilt. My parents always discouraged my stiming behaviours. I worked really hard to cut back and even eliminate some of them. Intentionally feeding these habits would almost seem like a step backward.

Great site! Love the infinity rings.

In answer to the OP, my main sensory therapy is Binaural beats, when I first found them I used them 'as is' but nowadays I rig them up to suit me betterYou can get them as an app for your phone which is useful in my break at work. I do have a ball of Bluetack which I knead when I'm stressed, lost most of its tackiness now so its more like putty.

Usually I do fine fiddling with objects in my pocket or playing with my fingers. I probably need to buy some chew beads for my jacket strings, I keep trying to nibble the ends to death.

As I recently found out, heavy blankets are now a necessity at night. We finally replaced our worn out bed and mattress, and now it's big enough we can all sleep in one bed rather than spread out throughout the house on three beds. A sheet, thin blanket, and comforter disrupts my temperature regulation so I'm either very hot or very cold, and I toss and turn a LOT. I've piled a few crocheted blankets back on my side, and last night I slept great. Not just from the delightful pressure, but the weight keeps me still. I'm a violent sleeper, so it's also in the best interest of my bedmates (husband and toddler) if the blankets are heavy enough I'm not acting out my dreams.
