what is happening to 3I Atlas?

^^Exactly the sort of click bait videos we talk about in another thread. ^^

Makes it a bit harder to distinguish if you try to watch the actual content, the AI is getting better. Yes, the entire video is a fake, and if people bother to check on some actual facts, especially someone who prides himself on his interest in physics, then they wouldn't fall for such rubbish or try to promote it.

1) No one can release new photos of Atlas. Why? Because since the 25th of October it has been behind the sun. No one on earth or even in earth's near vicinity can release new photos of it. We can't see it from here and it won't become visible again until the 6th of November.

2) If Atlas is the opposite side of the sun from us then how is it possibly a danger to us? It's nowhere near us and already headed further away.

3) No one at Nasa can give an interview or even respond to a query. Why? Because of the government shutdown that has gone on for a month now. Nasa are operating on a skeleton crew, just the bare essentials to maintain communications with satellites, the Mars probes and the Space Station. That's it. There's no one sitting at the front desk to answer the phone or respond to emails.

I really am shocked at just how dumb and gullible a lot of people are.
 
Here's some actual facts about the "current" Atlas comet. Yes, there's lots of comets and other objects in space with the word Atlas appended to their official name because Atlas is the name of the telescope that first discovered them. So when searching for information do a double check that you are in fact reading about the correct Atlas comet, there's three of those.

This article also tells you about the astronomer Leob, the religious nutter that first claimed it was an alien space ship. Not for the first time either, almost every time a new object has been spotted he has claimed it's an alien space ship. It's a fixation (psychosis) he has.

getting stranger by the day fortunately have decent background in spectrography, which is how I measured colour plus trained in college with various instrument. Yes I know these videos are AI generated can hear some of the B.S.
even some of the human made are a bit flaky, have read between the lines compare to What I learned in college and picked up later by experience.

NASA is shut down due to lack of funding, just like almost every other government agency. Tracking and analyzing 2I/ATLAS is not the job of NASA in any case. That is the job of university astronomy organizations. NASA simply reports what they release. Much of the latest work was done by networks of amateur astronomers. Try looking at astronomy sites.

In my opinion, as a geologist and amateur astronomer, it is an amalgam of comet and metallic asteroid. I have no idea how such a thing would form (neither does anybody else), but that seems to fit the observations. Wait a week or so before seeing any real information regarding acceleration, too soon for decent accuracy.

No, it's actually poor in metal. From the Wiki link I posted above:

"Although it is unusual that nickel emission was detected before cyanide, the concentrations of nickel and cyanide in 3I/ATLAS are generally similar to those seen in other Solar System comets observed at similar distances from the Sun. It is uncertain how nickel vapor is released from 3I/ATLAS; Rohan Rahatgaonkar and colleagues who analyzed the VLT observations proposed that there are several possible processes involving the chemical decomposition of nickel-containing organic compounds (e.g. nickel tetracarbonyl) via space weathering. The amount of nickel observed in 3I/ATLAS is still consistent with earlier predictions that it should have a metal-poor composition."

The only unusual thing about this comet is it's high speed, and that fits with our observations of other objects that have originated from outside our solar system.
 
Still radio silence from NASA it's Nov 4th
In the meantime 3I Atlas is showing evidence of non-gravitational acceleration

we will know what it is in 7 days.

It doesn't have to be a spaceship. Several billion years ago a now extinct civilisation could have constructed a Dyson sphere or a giant generator designed to absorb energy from a sun. It may have gotten old and exploded sending debris several miles in diameter flying through space. the debris are a type of industrial nickel alloy. Over time the debris fly past suns in thousands of solar systems, turning bright blue as it does what it was designed to do, capture solar energy.
 
^^^ Yes did you know on another forum (hosted elsewhere) I was told not to quote Avi Loeb because he is a pseudoscientist. After pointing out he is one of the three most highly cited astronomers in the world and longest serving Professor of Astronomy in Harvard University my discussion thread was locked. Perhaps the other forum administrator was friends with NASA.
