What Are The Differences Between Boys And Girls With As?

Hi! Here is a video I saw a while back which outlines a lot of the traits and challenges females on the spectrum experience. I hope this helps. :)

I watched this video after I discovered the differences it really describes a lot about women on the spectrum and it helped me alot

The first difference comes to mind is that girls with AS seem to be better at blending in, be it through mimicking others or just picking up on some things easier. I don't know if its something to do with how our brains are wired or if its something to do with social stigma and gender roles with how parents will parent a son versus a daughter...i would guess a combination of all the above possibilities. It could just be me, but it seems like its more socially acceptable for a girl to be shy and awkward versus a boy to be.

Here's a list of male 'things' ;)

Chat for Adults with HFA and Aspergers: The Downside of Asperger’s for Men

EDIT - damn, I have most of those :(

 Wow, I have never seen such an accurate compilation of me, I have almost all of those too, 1,2, 9, 20, and 23 are so ME!
I am such a coin geek too!:D

Excellent male resource Harrison!

Edit: ha! That list reads like my formal diagnosis letter.
And Asheskylar, I identify strongly with your list too, almost more accurately.

I just looked at your female list and it is 95% correct for me- since middle school (now 25) I've cared deeply about my appearance and have been told that I dress 'preppy'.. I take care not to look sloppy or like I don't care- I've never wanted to be singled out for how I dressed or present myself. Otherwise, pretty dang accurate!

I've always been the same way! This is the one characteristic of Aspergers (lack of attention to personal appearance) that I do NOT fit.
I started playing with makeup when I was 6 and have been into fashion from an early age. I can't stand leaving the house without makeup.
Granted, paying attention to many aspects of personal care was the result of someone, often a peer, pointing it out. For instance, I didn't start shaving until a boy made fun of my hairy legs. As a younger child, I also neglected brushing my teeth until I had to have 14 cavities filled.

I am the same I've been fascinated by makeup from a young age and class it as one of my interest, not only do I like the stuff I'm fascinated by the history of it,hygiene and appearance wise I was the same I use to not care about my hair that It was always knotty and I had greasy hair in That I let go oily until people started to say how greasy my hair was so now I have to wash it every day or I feel yuck,as the shaving part same I didn't know how to do it properly until the age of around 13 but before that I didn't do it until it was pointed out.
