When it comes to leading characters of the lycanthropic persuasion, I am VERY sexist. To me, a young man bitten by a werewolf is better than a young lady. Bitten boys handle it better. They grow and mature and use it to their advantage.
Example:
  • Scott McCall (Teen Wolf)

Bitten girls are AWFUL. They b*tch, they moan, they blame EVERYONE moon-bound for their situation or anything bad that happens to them. Is their s/o a werewolf? They'll drop them at the first implication of that significant other being a cheater or murderer.
Examples:
  • Elena Micheals (Women Of The Otherworld)
  • Sarah Hazen (Peter Is The Wolf)
 
Seems to me I recall Lawrence Talbot (Lon Chaney Jr.) being perpetually whiny over "just wanting to die", which spanned everything from "The Wolfman" (1941) to "Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman" (1943) to Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948).

What a wuss. :p
