WANTING TO SEE IF MY DAD, MY DAUGHTER AND I ARE HFA

My dad stuttered as a child, saw a speech therapist in his twenties, obtained a doctorate in Speech Pathology and Psychology and believe my 14 year old daughter is a HFA. I believe I am also and wondered if my dad is too. Have been doing research on this for the past couple of years and now think my father is HFA. My mom believes it too. Think his stuttering was a brain wiring sitch and think my brain is wired differently as well.

Hi, welcome to AC! :) I really hope you find the answer to your questions. I'm sure it will feel good when all the pieces have fallen into place.

Hi, welcome to the forum. The forum is a really good resource for information and experiences of people with ASD, so I'm sure you'll find it helpful :)

Hi MARGARETMARYANTOINETTE .
Welcome.
My son has had a serious stutter since he was 5, and has been in speech therapy for it for 10 years. It has not helped much. I was diagnosed with Apserger's earlier this year - but knowing what/who I am is now a good part of my journey.

Hi Kestrel,
How did you receive your DX of Aspergers or otherwise known now as HFA (High Functioning Autism)? I find when I read a list of SX (symptoms) of Adult HFA I meet alot of the criteria. I have tried to see if my daughter meets the criteria for HFA, she is 14 and have presented some of her SX to several clinicians who explain it away as social anxiety since she does not use STIMS, does look people in the eye when they talk with her and does not flap. I believe many practitioners simply do not know enough about HFA. My daughter has anorexia and was hospitalized for a month for it and is still in treatment. Those are the clinicians whom I have suggested they look into HFA too since those two DX run hand in hand.
