My earliest memory is having my picture taken when I was only a few months old. I can clearly remember the novel sensation of sitting up unsupported (I was still to young to sit up on my own) and the gigantic hands that would catch me every time I fell backwards. I also recall the blury figgures off in the distance and bright flash coming from near their head. I shared this memory with my mom when I was about 12 or so and she couldn't believe it. I thougt the man taking the picture was my grandfather, but apparently he was a young professional photographer.
When I was old enough to walk, but still a baby I recally trying to sneak out of my crib at night. The first time I managed to get my legs over the railing, but immediately fell and bumped my head. I started screaming and my parents immediately rushed into me room to console me. The second time I thought to myself that I would hold on really tight so that I wouldn't fall, but I lost my grip anyway and the same thing happened. I never attempted to climb out again.
Perhaps my strangest memory is from when I was about three years old and began to think about where I everything came from. I couldn't immagine a world without myself so I fuggured that I must have constructed my parents from old maniquin parts and then they in turn created the world. I shared this theory, as best I was able, and was informed that I had it all backwards, that they made me and that the world had been around "forever."
I can also remember things like having my diaper changed, waiting in my crib for my mom to come home, how I hated my car seat and it's brown vinyl covering, how much it hurt having my shirt pulled over my head, my first day at daycare where I cried the whole time and got made fun of by the other kids, learning to walk and then having a dream of running through a grass field a rediculous speed before taking flight. Yeah, I could go on.
I just wish my memory extended to more practical things, like recalling names and phone numbers, or following compex spoken directions.
