Toxic shame.

The always nagging in the back of my head voice assuring me that I am never good enough.

I know it is lying.

Yet I buy into that lie on a spiritual level.

I need to stop doing that.

I believe shame is also a tool that can be used on others, like guilt trips. Sorry you are going thru this now.

This is one area where my clinical logic is disconnected from my emotional core.

I know the shame is more often than not nonsense, yet I still feel a strong need to hold on to it.

Maybe I should use a rubber band on my wrist and snap it every time these unwanted thoughts come to me.

I think your mom and aunt groomed you by using shame as a tool to control you. So it feels comfortable to you. I guess you have to step back and really analyze your own personal thoughts about shame. We can live without shame. Acceptance of your good, bad, and even ugly parts of you will get that shame monkey off your back. Just a suggestion.
