Tiny changes trigger melt down

At college today they had changed the seats around and the rules on where we are aloud to eat. This caused me meltdown which took over an hour to come back with even with the help of the sensory sock, the glitter ball and the pompom maker.

Does anyone else react like this to change?

Some days I can CPR with change biggie then this but not always.

I can't say I went into a shutdown, but I did react very much to walking into my local grocery store and find they've moved virtually everything into different spots. It was stressful- felt like a blow to my gut. And will be for awhile until I got used to the new unnecessary layout.

I know, I know. They want to force us to see other products rather than to be able to gravitate to where I need to just to buy what I want rather than what I don't want.

Sometimes I think the supermarkets must be following the marketing playbook of our casinos.

Outwards I try to suck it up. But inside I'm screaming. I get it. ;)

If it is sensory it can change everything. My gym started to play music and I am now looking for another gym. My time going was less and less and less until I just can't take it.

Sometimes small, unannounced changes can lead to anxiety or a meltdown for me if they've occurred next in an accumulation of stressors over a period of days or weeks. Sometimes I'm able to adjust to minor changes quickly and without much difficulty, but then there are those times I am not able to.

Change.....I might look OK, but I am uttering dirty words and nasty names under my breath.

Yes, I am very much like that. But when I was younger ie a child; I went into myself, because I feared upsetting people and did not actually understand why I felt horrible for even the smallest change.

It is mostly at home that the changes take place and have to stop myself from screaming.

I don't like little changes either. As @Judge mentioned, something like going to the supermarket and they've moved things really gets to me. Internally I'm screaming, especially when the changes don't make any sense - for example, when our local supermarket moved all of the tissues and kitchen roll....to the same aisle as the pet food. It had previously been next to washing up liquid, which makes far more sense. My husband works at our local supermarket, and usually lets me know they've moved stuff, so at least then it's not so much of a surprise. Even something like someone changing the time they're picking me up by an hour makes me want to scream.

I'm not an Aspie and certain changes REALLY ANNOY me too- especially stuff like the supermarket changing where everything is just after I'd finally gotten to know where everything was. I know logically that this is a marketing ploy and that knowledge annoys me even more. I am fairly adaptable though to most life changes having changed both jobs and residences quite often in my life.

Super markets are so annoying when they change it around. It makes it so hard to find anything.

One non aspie recently said to me, after saying: well, we all feel that way sometimes and then: I guess the difference is that you aspies feel it ten times worse?

What's your answer to that question?

Sorry, it was not a question; more of a statement. But I nodded my head avidily.

Having lived my life as a neurotypical, I see both ends of the spectrum ( as it were) and clearly nts suffer too, but clearly, aspies have to deal with it on a daily basis.

I love my music loud; my husband hates it loud. I jump at sudden noises; he doesn't and so forth.

I'm terribly uncomfortable when my bed or my table is moved literally just 1cm to the side. I notice it right away and I'm going crazy until I put everything back on places.
in the 7th grade I had a meltdown because the teacher made me sit down for another desk (because I was sitting for the same desk for two years and she wanted changes)
every week I go to the same supermarket where the arrangement of goods on the shelves is changed VERY rarely about once every 5 years. :sunglasses:
