Reminds me of the 2003 film Thoughtcrimes, where a woman named Freya starts hearing voices in her head and initially assumes it's Schizophrenia. However, she is later told by a doctor that she's actually telepathic and helps her harness her power - with Freya unaware that the man helping her actually works for the NSA.

The memory of my luckiest line. I'd gone to a neighbourhood meeting, and a circle of about 40 people had done brief introductions. A woman who was starting a magazine came to me after the meeting, and asked if she could get an interview about my project. We decided that there was no time like the present, so we just went to the nearest public table, in the pub next door. There, it felt like a social occasion, so she introduced herself a bit more. The Club of Rome report had been in the news, and she wanted to identify herself with the Deep Ecology faction, so she said "I think there should be a reduction in population." I let that simmer until ripe, and then leaned forward to confide "Well, yes. I have a little list myself." She almost fell off her chair.
