New Māori words for autism, mental health terms

"
there was no Māori equivalent for many words, such as autism.

"In my experience, people with autism tend to have their own timing, spacing, pacing and life-rhythm," he said.

"That's why I interpreted autism in Te Reo as 'takiwatanga' - 'his or her own time and space'."

I love that, its got grace which is lacking in western equivalents, which normally emphasise the negatives.

Although in terms of being understood
'Im takiwatangan'

'Robert de niro speaking,takiwatangan'

:) if you know the song, just trying to make a connection so i remember!

Sounds cool and graceful! Then again, the Maoris are both graceful and occasionally intimidating. Just watch them when they haka, that stuff is scary enough to shiver your bones! Super badass though!
