Unfortunately there are any number of media presentations that seem to capitalize on offending and insulting others just to solicit laughs. Where the line between generally accepted humor can be blurred and confused with slander and malice.
And quite legal unless whatever is said or implied is interpreted as a violation of law or as a precursor to an "imminent, lawless action". Otherwise when a perceived majority of the audience likes it, consider it as "a motion carried".
One of those prices we pay for a relatively free society. At times amounting to a celebration of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Take your pick.
Or as James Brown sang, "Living In America....".
