Still Using Windows 10 Beyond Oct.14th 2025 ?

I would be running on Linux if I had a choice in the matter. I tend to push the limits of gear and if you do that you need a recent version of Photoshop. The company is getting more evil by the week, but they're still best in class.

Taking the wide view

Out of the darkness

Examples of the kinds of things I do.
Very cool !

Looks like the 16 x 9 aspect ratio has deep, creative meaning to you. You'd have a field day photographing around the vicinity of our Lake Tahoe....if you haven't already.

So many beautiful, panoramic views.

It just sort of happened. I find if you're doing something and it's fun and the police haven't showed up to stop you, it's okay to keep doing it.
Made me realize I don't think I've ever shot a single frame using the wide-angle style aspect ratio in my Canon DSLR. Hmmmm. Inspiring stuff you're doing though. Carry on....;)

Microsoft attempting to get all controlling and monopolistic again, sigh what a pain. Will probably just pay to get the extra year for 10 and think about my options. I'm not being the guinea pig for 11 untill we see the extent of how invasive it is.

I've pretty much decided to simply give up on Microsoft. The risks aren't worth it. Neither is gaming, that I gave up many years ago. Both in terms of privacy and especially security. And an extension of Windows 10 security for a mere 11 months more won't fix it.

As someone pointed out in another post, for all these Windows "gurus" on YouTube who figure out how to defy Microsoft in so many ways, it's always the same result that occurs in time. That Microsoft simply counters all these third-party hacks by incorporating them into updates. Where sometimes they publicize the details, and other times they may not. Leaving a nasty surprise for those who think they are circumventing Microsoft when they may not be.

Specifically Microsoft's intent to force all users to comply with Microsoft Accounts as opposed to Local Accounts, or any alleged hacks that allow a user to turn off their uber-invasive AI programs like "Recall" and "Copilot" or circumventing requirements like TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. Sure, you can find some of such hacks that actually work, but Microsoft eventually catches up with them, forcing you to either reinstall them or find newer hacks until the same results occur in time.

It's just not worth the hassle any more. A perspective reinforced when I reinstalled Windows 10 a few months back only to realize how inferior it is to Linux Mint and Pop!OS. Funny as hell to see on the days since Windows 10 support officially ended that Zorin OS 18 added more than 100,000 new users to their Linux distribution. It's considered to be more user-friendly for Windows users wanting to abandon Microsoft.

Microsoft wants their cake and eat it too. But then so do I. After all, I built my own computers. And Microsoft cannot have them. ;)

Lastly, a serious message worth listening to from a former Windows developer :

Nope. I'm on Windows 11 now mostly of out necessity, and after tweaking a few settings I haven't found it to be more or less troublesome than Windows 10. Only real gripe I have is the requirement for a Microsoft account to log in now, but so far I've not found that to be a major problem. I'd rather be using an up to date, secure OS that works with my computer than take the risk of using a now outdated version of Windows that's likely not going to play nice with my system, or worse caving in to Microsoft for those extended updates. I would go back to Windows XP SP3 if I could...make of that what you will, but besides using a virtual machine that's not going to happen.

Copilot, Recall, any AI-features I can live without despite Microsoft's insistence on pushing these on users. I know AI is snowballing and becoming a huge deal now, and it has its uses besides cheating on essays, creating deepfake videos and so-called "art". My Google Pixel phone makes a big deal out of it too, but aside from identifying something I know nothing about or just to experiment, I'll pass on the rest of it.

I still run that OS on my "Legacy" (circa 2003) computer, though completely cut off from being online. As time goes on, I become less and less prone to even touch it for a simple reason. It's painfully slow compared to my Linux daily-driver on a much more current hardware platform.

And that's with Windows XP SP3 running lean and mean without all the usual bloatware. A decent OS in its prime, but time has long since passed it by to use on a practical basis. Just using Photoshop 5.5 in Windows XP is like watching it run in slow motion. Nope-nope-nope.

I've given up on the prospects of Windows 11. Yet also foresee Microsoft once again demanding users upgrade their hardware to accommodate the inevitable and additional NPU requirements of AI for Windows 12, or whatever they intend to call it. A platform that may not even involve "the usual suspects" (Intel/AMD).

Maybe within a year Macrohard OS will be available. Switching to Linux for someone who's only ever used Microsoft appears quite painful from the outside.
