sound piece — curious how it lands

Hi all, I’m co-making music that focuses on texture, repetition with subtle variation, and non-literal emotional presence.
I’m curious how other listeners experience it — how it feels, what stands out, what’s confusing or calming.

it's very calming.

sorry for info dumping, you may have already discovered these but if not you might find them interesting....

African tribal music, although a very different soundscape has similar small changes in texture and modified patterns too. Discovered the Aka pygmy tribes through studying Ligeti piano etudes, also worth a listen

Assuming you're already familiar with the minimalist movement in mid 20th century classical genre.

when you described your music some of the black eyed peas tracks came to mind too. those often have examples of subtle manipulation if you listen carefully. Aside from the obvious ones in rhythm in texture there's some great subtle music production manipulations where things seem to morph into other things. think it might be a trance genre hangover?

I really enjoy the vibe to it. Hard to describe beyond very calming. It's simple yet busy enough that my brains engaged in a good way. And I like the brief semi pause near the 2:45-2:51 mark just before the vocals and everything else kicks back in. Really nicely done I'm going to have to search the forum to see if you've posted anything else. Also want to listen again to this one with proper headphones as I've been listening on my tv/monitor speaker which aren't the greatest for nuances.

That techno beat drives me mental. It aggravates me, it makes me angry and it makes me extremely aggressive. Within a few minutes I will also become irrational and violent.

It has that effect on a large percentage of the population and that is one of the reasons my last neighbour got kicked out and is now homeless. He aggravated too many people and caused too much disruption to the peace.

Interesting. It's strange how the same sound can effect us so very differently. Like the beat pattern in this isn't the sort that I associate with what we colloquially refer to around here as "bawk bawk" music. Which is just annoying, the kind you typically feel the beat long before the honda civic drives by. All bass drum 4/4 nothing at all interesting going on.

@Timos track above on the other hand I actually find engaging in a, it's scratching the right itch in my brain kind of way, and subsequently is very calming and focus inspiring. But I sometimes wonder how much of that is to do with the ADHD side of my wiring as a lot of high bpm tracks especially very layered/textured ones all have that sort of effect.

Nice, almost a canon, but I thought the rhythm was a bit obtrusive and distracted from the music instead of enhancing it. Try toning it down a bit to bring out the other sounds. On the other hand, you are the composer, and you should do with it what you will.

It's partly the faster pace of the beat but I think it also has to do with the way in which there's never any variation where as that tends to shift around a bit with live musicians. It really has a profound effect on me though.
