So... I Have Aspergers.

in other words, if the person knows what they are talking about and has a background in the disorder mentioned (aka not breeg, who is one that takes his own opinions above all else) than they probably have a better idea of what to look for.

AGREED.

Floor or Flour?

Like, having no 'communal presencing' doesn't always mean it's Autism, let alone pure non-sense. Having fever isn't always the same as being deciphered.

But, no matter what, I'm interested in what those shrinks and psychologists study, clinically and theoretically, beyond the widespread tendency/necessity of their profession.

Breeg's a mutt. He shouldn't be on here.

I wish I'd never said anything to be honest lol. Which sucks on my own forum. But whatever. I disagree with some private assessments, but only because they don't appear to have the right qualifications. As it happens, I couldn't see a specialist in my area that actually knew about the Autistic Spectrum, and knew that it wasn't a diagnosis, but that AS and Autism were on the spectrum and they were the diagnosis'. Anyway, after being put through what the NHS put me through, I didn't want to go down that route anymore myself, let alone to send Chris down it. They don't listen. Best to just go to someone who knows what they're talking about and actually gives a rats ass about the patient. So yes, I'm paying. Deal with it!

I'm glad that you did. You & Chris got a three page discussion going and not one mention of bashing the you-know-what. Finally a thread that everyone can actually participate in.   :)
I'd also say that most people support you & Chris on this anyway.

I'm telling the story from a different side. Not everyone is rich, and can pay for a diagnosis, if they can't be bothered with the NHS. I think you're too young to be on here.

And Willow, thats not really true. Obviously the private doctors are going to "care more" in most cases, cause they're getting payed more. The guy who diagnosed me was actually very good. It was worth the wait. But now i've moved on. No point just giving in, and looking for more reasons to wallow in self pity, like gamers or michael h

I'm not rich lol. And no, my parents/family/anyone else I know aren't rich either.

People I have seen through the NHS don't seem to care because they don't want to label or diagnose or whatever because then they'd have to follow it up with help which costs money, which they don't have. Good for you that you were able to find someone good and qualified through the NHS. But I didn't. What I did find was awful and more harmful than good. I have waited the best part of 5 years for a definitive diagnosis, the time spent not knowing what the hell was going on was ****, so I'm paying. What difference does it make, it's not your money I'm 'wasting' or however you see it.

ROFL

Here's hoping you don't become a practitioner of psychiatry, what with the early onset of a God complex. Usually people get that after receiving their legal rights to diagnose people. -_-

I know, the NHS is a joke pretty much. After I got diagnosed, nothing was done. I've come a long way since though. What made you think you needed to be diagnosed with something, 5 years ago? I was probably 22 when someone actually said about aspergers. Its good that you lot have found out, before life really starts, in terms of work and stuff. Did your parents pay for it then? Mine probably would, but I wouldn't let them anyway. A bit of support is all thats needed, and I got a bit.

Well 5 years ago was when things started to go to **** in terms of school and they referred me to have counselling and stuff and it kind of went from there. I saw my GP a lot trying to get him to tell me why I was different and having so many problems etc and after seeing a bunch of educational psychologists and psychiatrists I didn't really seem to get anywhere. I had a lot of terms thrown at me, most were mental illness' etc. My brother (younger than me) has AS and he was diagnosed early on as on the Spectrum because he had delayed speech, he recently got a full diagnosis of AS. So because of him I drew similarities and saw another psychiatrist on the NHS and he said I HAD Autistic Spectrum Disorder, not that I was on the spectrum. That was the closest I got. And when Chris suspected, I thought we may as well go private and get assessed with the same person. I am paying for it myself using my DLA.

Congrats Chris now you have been tested AS, but how comes all these years you didn't know anything about it up until recently?

I'm suprised they didn't pick up on it earlier then, considering things with your Brother.

I only recently enquired becuase I've had it thoroughly drilled into me throughout my life that i'm normal and that there's nothing wrong with me. Or thats what it felt like, so thats what I believed. If you're told something enough, eventually you'll just take it for fact.

I'd just like to say that me/Willow are definately NOT rich. It's crippling us to pay for it, which is ****.

I think the NHS is great. It would be just as bad here as in America, where you have to pay $700 just for some stitches, without the NHS. Also, I got a fantastic service from the NHS. I only had one psych that was a prick (out of the four) because he was really snappy. And tbh I was a bit pissed off they didn't notice I had AS until the worst possible moment (after I had ****ed school up).

So you can get over stuff quickly. So what ? Just means you're a heartless arse to me. I envy people that are constantly happy.

Its only really a couple of friends that have said there was nothing wrong with me, after I got diagnosed. I've grown up to be normal, but i'm not.
