You’ve been given a lot of great suggestions here! I hope something helps.

Just wanted to add that some people (children, and adults) are just simply afraid of, or uncomfortable around, infants.

I’m an almost 30 year old adult woman and I’m kind of afraid of babies. I don’t like handling them and I especially don’t like when they cry.
Is it possible that it’s not just the sound that bothers her, but she’s uncomfortable with the baby or afraid of him in general?

I have some friends who have babies and very young children, and although I do find them cute and I don’t dislike them, I’m pretty uncomfortable and unsure around kids until they are about two years old. I’m great with older kids, but I unfortunately don’t really have instincts with infants (which is why I don’t have children.)
Some of my dogs are also a bit uneasy and frightened around young children. Babies and toddlers can be unpredictable.

Maybe this information is useful, maybe not, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

It is not uncommon for young children to cry when they hear another child crying. These kids grow up to have great empathy for others.

I knew a little girl who would cry every time an ambulance would go by, because the sirens sounded to her, like terrible weeping.
