Seeking Understanding and Support for Long-Term Care and Independence

I've never heard of this so I googled to see if Mississippi provides it because my goal will be to keep my nephew in his home after his mother can no longer take care of him. The state does have the Ibudget Waiver program and it's administered by Medicaid. I hope this program will not be eliminated by the government budget cutting happening in Washington, DC.

I'm going to tell my sister-in-law about it as I think she is eligible for it, too, because she is on the spectrum and is 70 years old.

I too am watching what happens with Medicaid relative to government funded autism programs in Nevada. With things looking somewhere between precarious and bleak at the moment.

I’ve been working on small routines, like setting timers or writing out steps, to make daily stuff easier. It helps me feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

You can get in touch with whatever CIL (centers for independent living) covers your county. They have services that can keep people out of nursing homes and institutions, and transitional services that support people in finding supported housing. They are run by other people with disabilities, and the focus is on advocacy and accessibility. They are free and can guide you to good resources. The CIL in your county is the Coalition for Independent Living Options at Cilo.org.

I had a similar situation with my brother, and one thing that helped me was getting a carer card uk so other people understood my role when we were out. It made things easier in public places and even helped us get a bit more understanding from staff if he got overwhelmed. You can apply online, and it doesn't take long.
