I'm going to my GP in a couple of days to ask to be put on the diagnostic pathway. I'm 41, a mum, have EDS and just cannot help myself from bringing up the subject of Asperger's whenever the opportunity arises. Lots of what I have (rather voraciously) read so far resonates with my experience so well that I'm convinced.

I'm a bit nervous of going to my GP about this but I need to do it. I need to know.

I mentioned it to my GP at my last checkup. He dismissed the idea immediately, even though it was only the first time he met me (I switched from another dr for other reasons). However, my psychotherapist is much more open to the idea.

All that to say...if your medical doctor doesn't know much about AS, he might not think there's any validity to your concerns. But mental health professionals might be more open to discussing it, and have a better idea of what they're talking about.
