Riddles

A half of inch of body fat loss equals about a pound I think. So it might take reducing calories 500 a day for a week to lose that much.

I think it's more complex than being good or bad. There are many different modes of puzzle, and types, and language use makes a big part in various ways, and so much more I've not thought about.
In fact, that's part (for me at least) the attraction, there's the meta puzzle to solve - "what kind of puzzle is this", as well as the solution to the puzzle itself, and then there's the structure of the puzzle's clues, and so on ...
There can be a lot going on in there! 🤯😊

Hair is correct. Hair grows half an inch per month. It also stores valuable information that can be learned through forensic hair analysis.

The reason I did not specifically say hair as the answer was because about a decade ago when I started cutting our first son's hair they said in some sites I researched then hair grows a quarter of an inch a week. (I must have misread the original riddle to miss that). Also, that line in the riddle about eating made me think hair was not it, and as it seemed too easy for a typical guess to be that. So I wrongly picked choice #2 :)

I can get fired up in the summer,
and disappear in the cold,
yet most seem to love me there.
So blow off some steam around me,
