I still remember the talk with my parents 29 years ago, was on what I was going to do after high school during my senior year of high school. Looked things over before making the decision, was either go to college or enter the military weighing everything out. I talked to a Marines recruiter at school one day and he was a huge help. Told my parents that I decided to enlist in the Marines and they were proud of me with their support. Said I wanted to do something in my life in a positive way. Finally one day after school, went to the recruiting office and my parents watched me sign the papers. Emotional day was at the airport leaving for Parris Island, SC, I got a hug from them telling me good luck. They saw a 100% new person out of me at boot camp graduation, Mom wore a proud mom of a Marine t shirt. Dad wore a proud dad of a Marine. Did 6 years with 3 tours to Iraq. I was honorable discharged after I was raped and it was the worst phone call they got. A fellow soldier would not take no for an answer and got violent raping me. This took 2 years to fully recover from seeing a therapist and the VA did help out with this. I did go visit Parris Island 3 years ago and was told welcome home Marine. Also remember boot camp, I was beside one that was a snob and warned her to get up not listening. DI got her up right into her face getting her out of bed.
