Rating intelligence by understanding and recognising jokes and not being literal

I think I asked the wrong question. Not why do they try to pass of meanness as jokes, but why do they think they'll get away with it. Oh yeah, and why do other NTs just take their side and say it's ok because they were just joking, after all?

In my experience, they're probably either afraid that if they stand up to the bully, they'll be targeted too, or else they are trying to also assert their dominance over the person being targeted by siding with the bully. It's all about the peckingf order.
