How come my dog will try to chew off the too long end of his dew claw, but tries to get away when I want to trim it?

:dog: Sometimes it depends on what your using to trim, the guillotine ones crush the nail a little and I think hurt a bit:

These work a little better, and don't crush as much:

Most dogs get a little nervous when their nails are being trimmed, unless they have been trimmed since they were puppies.

My poor dog. I'm always doing unpleasant medical things to him. I had to spray stuff in his ears (under a vet's advice) to try to flush out a ball of wax that was bothering my dog. He hated it so much. I'm really glad he has never shown aggression to me even when I do something he hates. He's really good at twisting the body part in question around to the angle that makes it most difficult for me to get to it.
