the UK is different to the US we do get mental health problems .

I disagree. Quite a few of us here with ASD1 diagnoses do in fact have clinical mental illnesses.

No necessarily.
It depends on how they have lived their lives.
It sounds harsh but we create our own circumstances. That is to say, some successful Aspies grew up in Rotten circumstances.

My head is very adept at creating Rotten circumstances all on it lonesome.
