PPI phone calls?

For most of this week, I've been getting missed calls on my mobile from a Manchester based number trying to sell me PPI (Payment Protection Insurance), it's my own fault for giving out my mobile number as a result of a spam email I received last week from some company called "The Claims Guys".

So anyway, the other day I rang 'em up, asking if they could remove my details from their database and basically stop calling me as I don't have PPI and probably never will, they didn't understand my query and for the last 3 days since I've been getting regular missed calls on the mobile from them.

Surely under various UK laws this level of harassment is illegal so is there anything I can do to stop them ringing me all the time?

Firstly register your mobile number with the Telephone Preference Service.

If it keeps on happening then complain to Ofcom.

Or failing that, tell them to F**k O** and hang up on them :)

Buy a hardware call blocker for your phone if you don't already have such a function. Program their number so they can't contact you. Something I know is available in the UK.

It's illegal here too by federal law and criminal scammers and telemarketers just ignore it because law enforcement can't handle the number of intrusive and criminal calls. Even our state Attorney General's office told me as such.

Just beware that such calls may not be who they even claim to be. I have most of them blocked automatically by Nomorobo. But I don't think they offer service outside the US. You might check on that. Not sure the UK has anything comparable to it. With an Internet based line it's free. For cellphones it's $5 a month. But it works, having reduced such calls by 90% or more.
