Police record ‘hate incident’ after autistic boy drops Quran in school corridor

If I understand it right, I think we agree. The media/newspapers here where I live have only one job. To inform us of what is happening and only use the facts. No hiding info or lying. And the most important part of that job is to keep a close eye on the politicians and leaders and ask them the tough questions, nailing them to a walll when they screw up. And then inform the public about it.
Let's just say that IMO our laws and Constitutional rights have not yet caught up with how the media continues to morph away from reporting the facts, to instead nurture a target market for corporate profits.

In a country with a judiciary well known for historically ruling in favor of commerce and not consumers- or any neurological minorities.

Yeah I'm not saying the media is doing a great job. The media here sucks at the moment. But they have only one job and it's a simple one.

No, I think you missed who caused the problems and who controlled the situation. Who complained? Who made a huuuge deal out of a child dropping a book on the floor? Who blew the whole thing out of proportion? It was not the kids or the school or the police or the mom.
So, these days people need to understand everything they do - especially in public positions - is subject to this kind of sensationalization. School administration should have acted as though this could happen and engineered a strategy instead of just calling the cops to make it look like they took this seriously. Getting the police involved was only going to make things worse. Simpletons.

It has nothing to do with racism, it's about religion and religion is not a race. And the kids couldn't possibly do some seriously disrespectful stuff with a book. Because it's just a book.
This is one of those deals where you are correct but it doesn't matter. The book is a symbol to a people who identify as a "race" similarly to how Jewish people see themselves as separate from a white world. Like it or not, validating that is the key to mutual understanding and, in this case, forgiveness of a possible slight.

Yep - make money for their corporate overlords.

It is indeed.

Perpetuate quarterly profits to shareholders no matter what it takes.

@Forest Cat Again, you are correct but it doesn't matter.

I have my own blind spots and random things that drive me batty, so I get where you are coming from. However, your logical insistences don't mean anything to the NT world.

I have two copies of the Koran, one is a fancy faux gold leaf version and the other is a paperback reader. They are just books...but I understand their weight as social currency. Just like fiat money, these religious texts are backed by something much bigger and less tangible than ink and paper.

Different people will ascribe different character traits to those who associate with ideas. What was your reaction when I told you I own two copies of the Koran? How about when I tell you I'm not religious? Taking that into account, what social characteristics and value would you ascribe to my owning four different translations of the Bible and a Concordance, an Apocrypha, a Tanakh, a Book of Mormon, several books on Christian Mysticism, the Satanic Bible, several books on Buddhism, several books from the Church of Scientology, and more?

All these things will mean different things to you, me, and everyone else. Right or wrong, this changes the way we interact and behave.
