I feel that way about the question, too. It's asked everywhere you go and really it's just a social mannerism someone created. I don't even bother to give a verbal answer because I know they wouldn't want to start hearing the truth and why lie and say "great. And you?" A smile, and a nod does it for me.I smiled at that a little.
I don't know..it's hard to describe how I am (usually because it's so complicated and I don't like talking about myself much), so "ok I guess" is my standard answer.
