Sounds like you're on a loop of dark thinking (been there) and exhausted from the meltdown, I hope you feel better soon and are released from the loop.

Oh and good luck in the interview and with the results.

People wouldn't be better of if you were dead. These things can be stressful but they're not there to shine a light in your eye. Just be strong and be an advocate for yourself, you're taking your husband just in case. You'll be fine.

No one would be better off without you. You're taking someone along with you as an advocate. If I had to guess, the interview will be friendly and congenial, not adversarial. Believe you me, if they make you feel intimidated, they're most likely breaking any number of laws. The interviewer will be on his or her best behavior, especially with a witness in tow.

I sorry this is so stressful. I won't tell you not to worry at all because this is scary. I think it's normal to be anxious. just do your best with whatever calming exercises/coping strategies you already do.
Whatever happens there are people who care about you out there. Try to hold on to the knowledge that people care about you when the bad feelings come on.

There is no right or wrong way for an assessment to go. What helps you calm down after something stressful - can you plan to do it afterwards so that you also have something positive to think about.

About the assessment:
The Citizens Advice Bureau website have information about going to your assessment.
As you are feeling so low at the moment I suggest maybe your husband look at first and then he can discuss it with you if he thinks that might help you and otherwise just get ideas for himself on what will happen on the day. (If you don't want him to see this post could you suggest that he does some research and that you've heard that citizens advice have some information.)

The other thing to keep in mind is that if you aren't awarded Pip there is a review and then appeal. Quite a lot of people win at the appeal stage even if they are refused at first. If you are refused PIP the local CAB or another local charity might be able to help. Go in/phone as early as possible if you would like help as some places need to make you an appointment.
