Piercing your own ear with a sewing needle

uhm.. weird discussion this topic has turned into. to add to the off-topic discussion, I think and always have thought that life is too valuable to be thrown away, and I don't see the point of self-harm as I consider it a bad way to solve a problem. Sure I get depressed from time to time, sometimes really badly depressed. but I know from the first moment that I Will feel better soon enough (memories of good times sure help ;) )

Back to topic then.. Piercing your ear with a needle: I think it's a pretty bad idea as it can go so very very wrong (yes all piercings can, I know that too). Had a friend who did it from time to time, added some kind of stretcher cause he wanted to expand the hole, one day the stretcher fell out and his ear got infected on the fly. half of it melted and he never did it again to that specific bodypart. looked more or less like an old cows ear or something like that.

Others I've known has had infected lips, bellybuttons and even more precious bodyparts... So no, it's not a good idea to do it at all if you want my opinion. If done for self harm then I'd say its an even worse idea...

At a slumber party one time some of
us girls pierced each other's ears. Used
a sewing needle and either a cork or
potato.

Would have worked better if we'd known
that the thread should be somewhat
thick. Thicker than just sewing thread.
So that the opening would be big enough
for an ear ring stud.

We weren't trying to be 'edgy' or masochistic.
It was just an inexpensive way to get our
ears pierced. This was just lobes, nothing
fancy.
