New Year’s

Throughout the years, I always found it a very disturbing day. All these people happy & enthusiastic. Many times I found myself sitting alone on a bench just watching others feeling far removed from it all.

This year, I am very happy to say goodbye to a horrible decade of major events & life changes. I got my pets indoors pre-fireworks & treated them. (Fortunately, this year was much quieter than last for some reason). Then I watched Inbetweeners & fell asleep! My phone was totally silent ie. No messages but I was warm, calm & settled. Today I meant to make some healthier life choices & totally failed as I just stressed on them & did the opposite :-/ But, I have a whole month to start & a whole year to implement them so that's what I am telling myself..tomorrow...

I didn't really do much of anything special last night. The weather was pretty nasty, so there wasn't even a fireworks display. Maybe they will have it tonight or the night after. I don't usually go out to see the fireworks anyway, there's no one I can go with and it's not really safe for me to go alone at night.
I drank some diet Canada Dry ginger ale (the "champagne" of soft drinks), and watched YouTube videos. Pretty wild:rolleyes:.
Today I had my traditional New Year's Day supper with my parents. I saw a beautiful sunset on the way home. Nature's own firework's display. A lot less noisy, too.

To me it's just a point in time when I have to make sure to write the correct year in all my personal checks and upcoming income tax filings.

That's about it....

I agree, last year has been really bad for me in terms of anxiety, I found it hard but I kept going because I work hard to help my goals, it has been hard learning a language, especially Russian, because my anxiety and OCD is so constant and multiplying that with autism makes it really hard, I hope that through time my anxiety eases over this new decade. o_O

I don’t know what this is, but I’m sure I’d watch it.

I live in the western US in the state of Idaho. One of the things that Idaho is known for is potatoes. On New Years Eve, we lower a giant, glowing potato at midnight. Just like the giant, glowing ball that they lower in New York City. How do they celebrate New Years Eve in the Netherlands?

There’s no special tradition. We just celebrate with lots of fireworks, bonfires and eating deep fried dough balls with powdered sugar and waffle rolls filled with whipped cream. In my region they also eat pancakes with bacon or air dried pork sausage.

I go to bed early because I know as soon as the fireworks start going off I will be spending my time comforting Lucy (The dog in my avatar) until they stop. Luckily where I live that doesn't last too long.
