Need a friend? Rent one!

Did you know you can rent a friend? As crazy as it may sound, it's actually possible to do. Special services have been set up that allow people to rent a friend for various uses. You could rent someone to accompany you to a party or to simply run an errand.

Check out this article on BBC.

What are everyone's thoughts/opinions?

Seems similar to ads I've seen for "escort" services...but be careful, as most "escorts" are really prositutes. Though, I don't see why a prostitute would not pretend to be a friend if that is what you wanted.

Haha, I always joke that when I go see my counselor it is just me paying for a friend because I jabber about myself/my problems and she listens and comments with relative impartiality (in contrast to, say, my family). I'm probably too cynical about my ability to like random people and vice versa to consider rent-a-friend. On the other hand, people on the rent-a-friend service are probably relatively "friendly," as they did pick that job. I might remember this if I ever have to go to a very new place by myself and need to learn my way around.

I'd rather they didn't call them 'friends' but otherwise it's good that it's available. Either it isn't available here or I can't get the funding for it, though, so it's no use to me, sadly.

I totally need a rent a friend.

All a friend seems to be for nts is a fake ass person that lies to them constantly anyways so why not. At least hopefully a rent a friend won't talk **** behind your back.

Hmmmm I signed up as a friend, let's see what happens? Probably nothing :p

It seems a bit weird to set a price though. The truth is that I need a friend as much as anyone who rents a friend from there does, haha.
