"Napoleon" Reviews...Oh My

Seems they are bad regardless of who reviews this film. Particularly with anyone with a history background.

I think I'd rather see the French have made this film rather than it be told from an English perspective perhaps with a bit too much bias on multiple levels.

I always appreciated the film "Tora Tora Tora" which crafted a film based on two simultaneous productions depicting both the American and Japanese interpretation of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The film "We Were Soldiers" also made a concerted effort in depicting both an American perspective as well as the Vietnamese perspective of the Vietnam War.

Guess Ill pass on seeing it at the local Imax theater.

I have heard that the studio demanded a lot of cuts that Ridley Scott did not want to make since his original cut was around four hours long.

Wow....I couldn't find any reviews that were kind toward this film. Too bad given the genre of historical epics isn't particularly popular to the moviegoing public.

I would suggest waiting for the director’s cut to come out. The theatrical cut of Kingdom of Heaven sucked, but the director’s cut actually was pretty great.

I'm much more likely to get the DVD for "Oppenheimer". I don't think I'd want to pay a dime for Napoleon at this point. Though I did like the 1970 film "Waterloo", with Rod Steiger as Napoleon.

Your thoughts are definitely relevant knowing what Ridley pulled off with The Last Duel, as that had varying perspectives so masterfully done. The script, though, may well be the culprit. So many times, the writer (or that it was a handful of times rewritten) winds up being the downfall. Producers and Studios just handing out money aren't the wisest folks most times, either. They are basically just Wall Street investors at the craps table.
