My husband suspects he may have aspergers

So as we've been looking into my son possible having high-functioning autism, my husband has been wondering if he may have it too. I've actually brought up some things about him with a past therapist and she wondered if he may have aspergers. Anyway, in short, he's wondering if it's normal for people with aspergers to forget details about people. He said he will often hear details about a person (they'll tell him their name, where they work, how many kids they have etc.) and as soon it goes in one ear, it goes right out the other and he's completely forgotten everything about that person. He said he even tries really hard and is desperate to hold onto the information, and it still leaves practically immediately. Do any of you deal with this?

I've never thought of details on people before. But I have a terrible time remembering peoples names. If someone tells me their name, I will forget it in about 3 seconds. So ya! I'm terrible with names.

Its also possible to remember things about people for example i forget peoples names and what they look like but i can remember things like their favourite song. Does your husband have any other autistic traits?
I also have come to the decision that im autistic and am in the long process of being diagnosed.

one sign of dementia without!!!!!!!!! other !autistic !traits !is short term memory loss.
it can simply be stress our brains must cut off uneeded info .

Just with names. And that is mostly ones I do not see as often.

Pretty good with details of a person, enough to know what to not say and to mention something that will make them feel valued.

I do have the most terrible short term memory though.

I have always struggled with names even with people I know well and sometimes I completely forget I've met people previously. It does not improve people's opinion of me!

I don't have that problem probably any more that the general population. However I know for a fact that a lot of autistics have problems with short term memory and remembering details like this. And yes, it is a trait that is worthy of note in the diagnostic process.

I have difficulty remembering faces (prosopagnosia)

I never realized how bad I was at recognizing faces until I worked a this job I had recently on a college campus. I had to check everyone's ID in order for them to drive their cars in and people would complain that I had just checked their ID just a few minutes prior. I couldn't remember their faces many times, but oddly I could remember their license plate numbers off the top of my head.

I have a hard time with faces and names (that I don't see all the time)... Give me their Phone number, and I can give it to you a year later, but I don't know who it goes with... So thats a load of useless information. : )
