My discussion forum is dying.

Well it's finally back up and the admin/owner says the site is getting DDoS attacks. I'm not naming the names because I don't want it to seem like I'm going to another site to bad mouth the place and owner. It's just been really frustrating.

I was a regular there for years, but the forum never had a way of addressing/fixing problems. The Admin would not allow the moderators to have any authority or control. They couldn't ban people, they couldn't delete offensive posts, and couldn't make changes and even when such was passed up to the Admin for action, he rarely if ever responded. The exodus started and then accelerated when the Admin got someone to do a site 'Upgrade' which made the site technically even worse. I left when 3-4 of the surviving moderators quit and left in a bunch. That was a few years back. If you are the same 'Ezra' as was on that site I actually remember when you first joined there.

Yeah that was it. The supposed upgrade still put it like 10 years behind other forums such as this one. I remember two great mods I really liked left over it. That Ezra was likely me the precocious brat.

I was on the wrong planet forum at one time. Much prefer this forum. Great group to discuss things with everyone.

I joined here close to when I joined several forums. But I wasn't able to keep up with them all so this is one place that fell by the wayside for me. Fortunately I wrote down my password and was able to find it. It's nice having things like alerts and like buttons etc here.

Somehow, it all becomes something that you've heard before and answered five years ago. Know when I was a mod at another forum, there were few questions that I originally answered, that were not a repeat of others.
Yes, I've noticed that this tends to happen, I think that some members copy and paste their repiles, because they've said it all before.

Most forums die off eventually, the local forum over here (Sheffield Forum) has been slowly dying for years IMO, people left in droves a few years back because of the heavy hand of the Mods, and stifling of good topics as a result.

I clicked a thread on WP yesterday
and got a zeus/scam virus. It was
very tiresome.

A useful reminder, I guess, of why
I only look at the place a couple
times a year.

I'm sorry to hear that. Explains why the place is getting slower and slower. Maybe people will come here instead of dropping the forum experience altogether. I don't have a grudge against the place, just quite frustrated over it.
