Monotone sounding voice.

I noticed today, that when I talk my voice sounds a little bit Monotone. I know my sister always said I talked like that. But I never heard it till now. Is that a autism thing? I also have trouble reading with expression. It tends to sound too unemotional.

It is for some on the spectrum. I happen to mumble a bit and look away from people when I am talking to them from time to time. What I tend to think is if what you have to say is important enough, others will listen no matter how you say it.

It is a autism thing, yes. A monotone voice is quite a common irregularity when it comes to speech problems in autistic individuals. Others include odd pitch or prosody. There are even some people out there who have foreign accents because they picked it up on television shows as a child.

I have a monotone voice. I have tried to alter the tone of my voice but it's something I need to be conscious of when I speak which makes it feel really animated.

Yes, it is an Asperger thing. I practiced normal intonation by watching TV shows and copying what people were saying and how they were saying it. When alone I practiced this. I have more natural intonation now thanks to the work I put in.

I'm pretty monotone and I can develop an accent when exposed to one long enough, which some people have taken as me mocking them.

I have this too... My therapist has me practice talking with different tones of voice for different emotions but it feels so unnatural. When she models it for me, I almost cringe at how she over-acts it.

I dunno if I have a monotone voice O_o

I talk really really fast when I get excited or angry though, usually its difficult to understand what I'm saying.

Like Korbin said, I pick up accents quickly aswell

I have problems with the volume of my voice. If I'm in a conversation I'm excited about I routinely will have people tell me I am talking to loud. Its done in a kind, joking way but i need the coaching because I don't notice it.

I would find it patronizing to be coached on how to talk. Did just fine learning on my own.

I don't think I have a monotone, but I think it's from years of imitation. I speak oddly from picking up accents from being in international schools, living in the American south, and then living in Minnesota (the cold north). When I was younger though, my pitch was really really high and very child like.

Now that it's brought up, my brother (whom I also believe is somewhere on the spectrum) mumbles in a monotone and it's soooo hard to talk to him, especially on the phone.

Strangely, I've never been able to pick up accents. Glad I'm not alone in the Monotone thing though, and that it is a spectrum thing for some.
