I also asked him if he was familiar with the recognized worldwide guru of Aspergers (who happens to live in Australia) and who I am hoping ultimately to see.
I'm assuming that you mean Dr. Tony Attwood. If your psychologist friend doesn't know Dr. Attwood, it's a good bet that he isn't up to speed on autism.

In our area (northern Wisconsin, USA), I have run into psychologists who still refer to Dr. Leo Kanner's "frigid mother" hypothesis (meaning that they are unfamiliar with even Dr. Lorna Wing's work)...!

You must admit that Dr. Tony qualifies as an informed expert, though...
