Wanted to try this popular English food - beans on toast. Some people say it's their favorite. I honestly saying don't understand why, because it doesn't taste like anything special. Maybe because it is a cheap food people were eating when there was a war or bad economical situation, so it reminds them about childhood or something.

That's pretty much it, and also it's a part of their history - the invention of tinned food. Back in those early days they didn't realise tin was poisonous and and it killed quite a few people before they figured it out and switched to using steel.

A much older traditional poor people's food is one that you will like though I think, proper home made Pea And Ham Soup. Don't buy the tinned stuff though, it's rubbish.

If they have vegan versions - sure

Pea & Ham soup! Yum! My Nan used to save the brine from cooking a smoked Gammon & use that for the stock.
I don't know If the make 'Suma' is sold worldwide but they do a very nice Veggie version of Pea & Ham Soup. I buy it for my Vegetarian Son when he stays with me.
