Just applied online to WH Smith's at Meadowhall!

Just got back from a meeting down at Autism Plus, looked online for work, and found a 4 hour contract work at WH Smith's in the Meadowhall Centre, perfect as I'm always in there buying magazines and/or Lottery tickets.

Part of the online questionnaire was "do you have a disability?", my first instinct was to put no, but then I knew that in the unlikely event I got an interview, they'd see I wear a hearing aid, which counts as a disability so I had to put yes.

I did put that I have extensive customer facing retail experience as evident from the latest version of my CV, and Autism Plus created a cover letter to go with my application.

Hopefully I'll get an interview at least.

I think this one should probably net something because Autism Plus is assisting you with the potential placement. If I had money to bet, I would bet that WH Smith's was offered a tax incentive to hire someone with a disability. Or maybe Autism Plus will be providing partial payment of your wages for a trial period. The organization that I work with, Pennsylvania Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, works much in the same way. If OVR places a client in a job, then typically there are either sizeable tax breaks, partial payment of wages, or both. I really wish disability did not have such a stigma. Honestly, I think if a company was willing to give someone a chance with supported employment, they would be pleasantly surprised. Now, here's my personal rant:

I am anti-Capitalist! Capitalism is destructive to the environment and to humanity. Capitalism encourages greed, avarice, and criminality. The entire system is set up to repeatedly punish people that meet with difficulty and makes everything a profit/loss calculation. In my older and wiser age, I am moving rapidly towards the left (and not the liberal left.) I am becoming a compassionate anarchist or anarcho-socialist. Yes, we do exist ... LOL! I am sick of corrupt government helping out crony capitalism.
