It's a GREAT time to be alive

I was inspired by a speech I heard last night about all the great things happening in the world and wanted to share.

Here's what I've witnessed in the past year:

Women's rights are being restored
Children are being protected from schools and doctors that seek to harm them
Criminals are being held accountable for their crimes
Rampant fraud, covered up by racists due to the skin color of the fraudsters, is being exposed and eliminated
Murder rate has plunged to a 125 year low after the rule of law was enforced against violent criminal trespassers
Science is triumphing over ideology
Love is winning against hate

There's also a marked lack of H Bombs currently falling.

We haven't experienced a second Carrington Event.

No stars have gone nova close enough to fry us with gamma radiation.

The Yellowstone super volcano has not erupted.

So yeah, things could be MUCH worse, and it's a good time to be alive.

People are proving that they are decent despite the worst estimations--they are putting themselves in front of pepper spray and tear gas, putting their bodies and their minds on the line to push back against what's happening, old people pushed on the ground, young people risking their futures to protest, putting their very lives on the line, sleeping out in the elements at 10 below, standing on basically the firing lines to say no, and at points giving it all up in order to get the message across. As shameful as my culture is, people do step up in ways that genuinely restore my belief in human history past and present.

It's always good to be grateful that bad things aren't happening where you live. Thanks for sharing!

That all sounds honorable if they're protesting some great evil. Thankfully, nothing like that is happening in my country but I've about heard the situation you've described in Cuba so perhaps that's where you're writing from. If that's the case, I hope you can get to a free country nearby (if you desire it) where you'll be welcomed and granted asylum.

I’m massively enjoying my rabbit hole of playing my different basses. The look, the feel, the weight. the feel of the thick strings on my fingers. Then there is the sound. Great time to be alive. I have time for music

But it already is, very clearly, right from the opening post, I'd say. It actually took me a moment to catch it, but it's from the very first sentence, I think.

Surely I dont have to explain... right?

Did I ever mention I'm from the US? Not sure why it's occurring to me to mention that now, but hey, there it is. South of Chicago, actually.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway.

Good things, let's see, good things... well... seeing people band together to protect others from roaming gangs of masked clowns who go around kidnapping people based on skin color (or just for any reason at all) has been very inspiring. Particularly over in Minnesota. I know I wouldnt last 5 bloody seconds there. But the amazing people who live there just refuse to back down even against the threat of getting tear-gassed by """"agents"""" or even just outright shot. Or other horrid things. They risk all of that just to protect each other and stand up for innocent people.

Usually, I have a super low view of the general public. Comes from my school days, plus my work days (where I mostly dealt with the public in stores and such). "most people are jerks" has been my view for... always, really. Always. The internet being the internet has also made me more cynical too.

But maybe... just maybe... not everyone out there is a bully or a total jerk. Or like, a T-100 in a trenchcoat or something. Maybe some people really do care about not just themselves, but even people they've never met before. Even if those people are very different from them.

Seeing evidence of that is inspiring. Even causing some of my depression to crack more.

Yeah, pretty much how I'm feeling lately too.

Pride in people I've never even met... That's a new one for me.

I didn't mention a specific country or any specific details because I wanted to keep it non-political. I wanted a positivity thread where people can share the good things that have been happening around them.

No one in my country is shot or tear gassed unless they (or a group they're a part of) violently assault or interfere with law enforcement carrying out their lawful duties. If you try to murder law enforcement by running them over with your car or using a gun to resist arrest in any country, you're probably going to get shot. I am grateful for the brave men and women who stand up and work hard to keep my country safe from criminals who rape and kill innocent citizens and legal immigrants. I admire their courage, knowing it can't be easy dealing with violent agitators who continually harass and assault them. Enforcing our laws saves thousands of lives and that's always a good thing.

I think your negativity bias made you susceptible to believing propaganda meant to divide people by fomenting hate to trigger you to demonize good people who are doing what is best for your country. I encourage you to talk to people who disagree with you, see why they believe as they do, and try to see the good in others. If you embrace love instead of hate, I think you'll feel better and start to enjoy your life.
