Its out of the blue. When I do or ask for commissions it’s different
My friend and I came to a conclusion it’s most likely a money mule (person who transfers money acquired illegally in person, through a courier service, or electronically, on behalf of other)
This is a variant of the fake check scam.

There's another one going around where people will overpay with vimeo or paypal (on a commission, item, etc) and request a refund on the grounds that they overpaid, and provide proof to either paypal or vimeo. Apparently both are so lenient that they'll usually just issue a chargeback, so you make nothing.
They never run out of new ways to screw unsuspecting people over, apparently. And it's not always easy to protect yourself in today's world, either.

I almost fell for one recently, it looked exactly as it should for a message from Australia Post saying that a parcel was undeliverable. I was waiting for something from ebay at the time so I started following the prompts to see what it was about. I got right up to where it wanted money.
Australia Post would never send an email wanting money, that's just not the way things work in my country, but it was only $1.75 that they were asking for and most people would pay it without thinking.
But by paying you have just given them valid credit card details.
I went to Australia Post's website and sure enough they have a warning on their site about the scam.
